The University of Toronto community is celebrating the return of in-person convocation since the start of the pandemic two years ago, .

鈥淲e know our students really want to get back to in-person,鈥 U of T President Meric Gertler told CBC Toronto after noting the state of the pandemic and current public health guidance made in-person convocation ceremonies safe once again.

Temerty Faculty of Medicine graduates Jennifer Zhang and Sahar Zarabi told CBC they were excited to cross the stage inside Convocation Hall with their classmates on Thursday. 鈥淚t feels surreal because I feel like so many of our classmates, we haven鈥檛 seen the past two plus years because of the pandemic. It鈥檚 just nice to be able to share this special moment together for once,鈥 Zhang said.

Zarabi said she was grateful to have her family around for the ceremony. 鈥淚 feel like they have contributed to this almost as much as we have,鈥 Zarabi said.

U of T will hold 32 ceremonies between June 2 and June 24 with more than 15,500 students graduating.
