Professor Gillian Hadfield awarded Mundell Medal for great legal writing

In recognition of her distinguished contribution to law and letters, Professor Gillian Hadfield has been in celebration of great legal writing,

Hadfield is the director of the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society and a professor of law and strategic management. She is among the world鈥檚 most distinguished scholars in the interdisciplinary fields of law and economics, and a world leader in the emerging field of law and technology.

With her masterful writing, Hadfield has made fundamental contributions to three areas essential to understanding the operation of law: the role that norms play in the rule of law; the institutional design of the legal profession, particularly its effect on access to justice; and, law and technology. She is author of Rules for a Flat World (2016), a systematic and general account of the frameworks for legal norms.

Established in 1986 by former Ontario Attorney General Ian Scott, the Mundell Medal is intended to be the 鈥淧ulitzer Prize鈥 for legal writing. The medal is named after David Walter Mundell, a renowned constitutional lawyer and the first director of the ministry鈥檚 Constitutional Law Branch.
