Poet Gwen Benaway wins Governor General's literary award
Gwen Benaway, a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto’s Women and Gender Studies Institute, has taken home a Governor General’s Literary Award for poetry.
Benaway was recognized for Holy Wild, her third book of poetry that explores the intersection of Indigenous and trans identities through an autobiographical narrative.
A transgender woman of Anishinaabe and Métis descent, Benaway studies queerness, colonialism, storytelling, transgender history and Indigenous perspectives on gender and sexuality.
