Cristina Amon recognized with Vivek Goel Faculty Citizenship Award

For her transformational leadership in advancing gender equity and promoting diversity while establishing U of T as a world leader in multidisciplinary research and education, Professor Cristina Amon has received the Vivek Goel Faculty Citizenship Award. 

The honour is part of the in collaboration with the university. The prestigious program dates back to 1921 and recognizes outstanding faculty, staff and students.

Amon served as dean of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering from 2006 to 2019. Under her leadership, U of T Engineering became a global hub for interdisciplinary research and education known for its innovative educational programming, student success and outstanding professors. 

In awarding the honour to Amon, the alumni association noted that her commitment to outreach and diversity set a new standard for Engineering schools worldwide: during her tenure as Dean, the number of women faculty at U of T Engineering more than tripled to 57 and the first-year engineering student cohort increased from 20 per cent to 42 per cent women â€“ an historic high. She also expanded the curriculum and spearheaded initiatives such as the Troost Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering.
